Apparently mice & other small animals (mostly rodents I think) find it absolutely repellent, so it'll help keep them out. In the meantime, you need to train the cat a little better. Teach him to make a good, clean kill! We had 2 mice get into our house. The first one was tormented by the cats, but I caught it & took it outside in time. The second, one of the cats killed (no blood, luckily) and laid next to our bed as a prize at 3 AM.
